Recently, we announced our partnership with Imply so we’ll naturally be talking a bit more about them on this blog. This may well be the first time you’re hearing about them so, to kick things off, let’s start with a brief introduction to Imply and some of the companies that use it.

What is it?

We are spoilt for choice regarding data analytics software, but finding a platform that can reliably present both streaming and batch data for analysis is rare. That’s where Imply comes in. Imply is a full-stack data platform powered by Apache Druid, a widely-adopted high performance real-time analytics database.

With Apache Druid technology under the hood,  you’re able to  store, query, and visualise your data with sub-second query response times. Moreover, it’s a cloud-native platform and enables arbitrary data exploration, low latency data ingestion, and fast aggregations. Imply combines Druid with powerful real-time visualisation, management, monitoring, and security components. It can be deployed in your data centre or as a managed service in the cloud. Who uses it?

If you browse their website, it’s clear that Imply is used by a fair number of established companies. Here are a few:

Twitch

Twitch, if you’re unfamiliar, is a live streaming platform used mainly by gamers but also by internet personalities to interact with fans live. According to Twitch Tracker, there were more than 9.5 million active streamers  and a total of over 1.9 million hours of streams watched in February 2021.

Data is critical to Twitch as they are data-driven decision-makers and wanted to empower all staff to make data-driven decisions as they scaled. That’s why they chose Imply to provide self-service analytics to both technical and non-technical staff.

Twitter

MoPub, a Twitter company, provides monetisation solutions for mobile app publishers and developers around the world.  With over 1.7 billion monthly unique devices, 1T+ trillion monthly ad requests, 52,000+ apps, and 180+ demand side partners on the platform, it’s clear that they operate on a massive scale.

Customers, partners, and internal teams depend on fast, easy access to data to answer business questions, troubleshoot issues and optimise revenue. To make this possible, MoPub used Imply and Druid to build a solution called MoPub Analytics.

BT

BT Group is the largest provider of fixed-line, broadband and mobile services in the UK, and also provides subscription television and IT services. They use Imply to monitor network performance. BT are committed to provide reliable connectivity to their customers and use Imply to ensure 100% availability.

Why use it?

The platform offers simple operations while still ensuring high performance, constant uptime, and easy scalability as your cluster grows. You can deploy in any environment from bare metal, public or hybrid cloud, Kubernetes, and more. With Imply you can accelerate development by leveraging the world’s foremost Druid experts to accelerate your path to production and deliver the best possible experience to your users.
